The Bregenz Festival is one of the most enchanting summer evenings in Europe. *La Traviata* on the lake stage — an experience that lingers in the memory.
For those travelling from Munich, Vienna, Zurich or Stuttgart, the journey to the region is in itself well worth the trip. What happens after the curtain falls determines the quality of the entire stay.
The Alpenstern in Damüls is an hour’s drive from Lake Constance — in the heart of the Bregenzerwald, at 1,430 metres above sea level. As a hotel for the days following the festival, it is no compromise. It is the very reason to stay in the region.
The performances at the 2026 Bregenz Festival begin at 9.00 pm and last around two hours — the evening ends late. Anyone who still has a long journey home ahead of them won’t take much of it with them. Those who stay get to start the next day afresh.
The Bregenzerwald is not a detour. It is an extension — peaceful, green, free from the hustle and bustle. And the Alpenstern in Damüls is the place in the Bregenzerwald that rivals a Festival evening in culinary terms.
Three restaurants. Three Gault-Millau toques at the Löffelspitze. Head chef Sandro Abel works with whatever the region and the season have to offer — precise, seasonal, and unpretentious.
Maximilian Steinfeld — Vorarlberg’s Best Sommelier 2026, Wine Spectator Award, Wine List of the Year 2026 — guides guests through a wine cellar housing over 2,500 bottles. An evening there is no substitute for the opera. But it complements a festival evening in a way you’ll never forget.
Bar Novum, named Falstaff Barjuwel 2025, is the place to round off the evening — quiet, artisanal, and unhurried.

The Hotel Alpenstern in Damüls is about an hour’s drive from the Bregenz Lake Stage — ideal for the days following the festival, when you might wish to experience the Bregenzerwald as a peaceful extension of your summer holiday.
The Alpenstern does not offer its own shuttle service to the festival. The hotel is particularly suitable for guests who wish to stay in the Bregenzerwald for a few days after attending the festival and treat their stay as a holiday in its own right.
Performances of *La Traviata* last around two hours and start at 9.00 pm (9.15 pm in July). Anyone wishing to visit the Alpenstern afterwards should plan their trip to the Bregenzerwald for the following day — or stay overnight in Bregenz first and travel there the next day.
